Flower Sightings 2024 - First Photograph of Each Species
in chronological order

The sighting of a Bluebell leaf on January 2nd was amazing and three other flower leaves were also spotted in early January. The winter was very mild and wet which stimulated this early growth.
And on 25th January the first spring flower - Bittercress in Middle Gorse - closely followed by Wild Strawberry in the same spot on 28th of January. Many of the sightings are earlier in the year than they have ever been seen before in our wood.

The white Knapweed shown in the page header, photographed by Ruth Budd on 28 July, is not a new species but a rare variant of the usual purple flower.

139 species of flowers seen so far this year - see Wild Flowers Full List & gallery.
